SVAC REMEMBERS
SVAC was started in 1953 by Babe and Stan Kerka, Mildred and Jim Kirkpatrick, Pat Williams and Bea Davis.  Meetings at first were held in members homes.

SVAC was one of the first (if not THE first) volunteer ambulance services in Alaska and is one of the finest still in operation today in the state of Alaska.

From those six people SVAC has grown to more than 15 folks to respond to medical emergencies from Lowell Pt. to mile 36 of the Seward Highway (and to mile 75 if requested by mutual aid), to mile 48 of the Sterling Highway, 24 hours a day, rain or shine (or snow) every day of the year.   The members are at least ETT's with several at EMT 1, EMT 2 and EMT 3 levels of certification.

The dedication plaque to the right was mounted on the SVAC building that opened in May of 1996.  Prior to that date SVAC had several locations.  The first known was the old Seward General Hospital (which is no longer), later SVAC  moved to the local Seward Fire Department hall and finally in 1996 SVAC built it's current home at 2nd and D street.
